- + 1/3 cup (80g) warm heavy cream to pour over rolls right before baking (for the dough)
- 6 tbsp (85g) unsalted butter, softened (for the filling)
- 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed (for the filling)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla (for the filling)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional) (for the filling)
- 8-9 christmas oreos, finely crushed (for the filling)
- + extra chopped Oreos (for the filling)
- 6 oz cream cheese, softened (for the frosting)
- 1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened (for the frosting)
- 1 1/2 cups (180g) powdered sugar (for the frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla (for the frosting)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, buttermilk/milk, sugar, & instant yeast.
- Add egg, egg yolk, melted butter, vanilla, & red food coloring, mix.
- Stir in salt, cocoa powder, & flour.
- Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes.
- Place in greased bowl, cover, & let rise for 1-2 hrs/until doubled. (this may take slightly longer than typical cinnamon rolls)
- Filling: mix butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, & crushed oreos until fully combined and spreadable.
- Roll dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread the filling evenly & scatter chopped oreos all over.
- I like to use a pizza cutter to first slice 8 pieces then roll them each up tightly. (Or you can tightly roll the whole thing then slice)
- Place in greased 9x13 pan.
- Cover & let rise 45-60 more min.
- Pour warm heavy cream over rolls right before baking.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22-28 min.
- To make the icing, beat cream cheese & butter together until smooth. Beat in powdered sugar & vanilla.
- Spread over warm rolls. Top with more chopped christmas oreos & sprinkles.
