Roasted garlic potatoes au gratin with beef

Thin potato slices baked in a roasted-garlic béchamel, topped with seasoned beef and bubbling mozzarella — creamy inside, crispy on top.

Ingredients

  • 6 potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 6–8 roasted garlic cloves
  • 50 g butter
  • 50 g all-purpose flour
  • 600 ml whole milk
  • 100 g heavy cream
  • Garlic powder, salt, pepper, paprika, nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon
  • 200 g ground beef, seasoned and cooked
  • Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Slice the potatoes thin and boil 8 minutes; drain.
  2. Make the béchamel: melt the butter, whisk in the flour, then the milk little by little, followed by the cream.
  3. Stir in the roasted garlic, the spices and a handful of cheese.
  4. Layer the potatoes in a baking dish, pour the sauce over, and bake at 175°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Top with the cooked beef and mozzarella, and bake again until the potatoes are tender and the top is crisp and golden.
