  • For the wet batter — 1 tsp baking powder
  • For the wet batter — Salt to taste
  • For the wet batter — 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • For the wet batter — 1 tbsp smoked paprika powder
  • For the wet batter — 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • For the wet batter — 2/3 cup cold water ( less or more to make thick batter)
  • For the dry batter — 1 cup all purpose flour
  • For the dry batter — 2 tbsp corn starch
  • For the dry batter — 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • For the dry batter — Salt to taste
  • For the dry batter — 1 tsp garlic powder
  • For the dry batter — 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • For the dry batter — 1 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • For the sauce — 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • For the sauce — 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce — 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce — Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the onions and slice them into 1 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and remove the membranes. Carefully Pat dry the onions if there is any moisture.
  2. In a bowl, combine all purpose flour, corn starch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika powder. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients until you achieve a thick batter.
  3. In a separate bowl, prepare the dry batter by mixing all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, panko breadcrumbs, and dried parsley. Mix well to ensure all the ingredients are combined.
  4. Dip each onion ring into the wet batter, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Then, roll the onion rings in the dry mixture, making sure they’re evenly coated as well.
  5. Prepare the sauce by mixing all the ingredients in the bowl.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F. Fry the onion rings in batches of 3 to 4 at a time for 2 to 3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Serve the onion rings hot with the sauce.
Tip: Taste the sauce before assembling and adjust the salt then, not after.
